He was killed in action on 6th January 1900

It is not always possible to match the soldier with the civilian with these Boer War casualties.
That means I can only record "most likely to be" in many cases for the civilian identity

This is one of the "Most Likely"

Charles Abram COBBIN was born 2nd qtr 1872 Mildenhall 4a:544 son of Emma COBBIN. She married George KIDD in 4th qtr 1873

1881 census...Aged 9, Charles KIDD was at The Street, Barton Mills with George KIDD [36] farm labourer; his mother Emma [30]; brother David [5] and sister Isabella [3]. All were born in Mildenhall

1891 census...Charles not found in this census, quite likely to have been in the Army. His parents were at Redmere Cottage, Hockwold cum Wilton, Norfolk with his brothers David, Arthur [7] and Victor [2]; sisters Isabella, Ethel [10]and Bessie [5]. All were born in Mildenhall, The census form incorrectly has Victor born in Walington, Cambs, it actually was Worlington.

By 1901 census the family were now at Aldershot, Lakenheath .

He was killed at Grassy Hill, Colesberg.
His Queens South Africa medal carries the clasps for Cape Colony and South Africa 1901
